Two field investigations on the response of guar to Bradyrhizobium inoculation and to nitrogen and phosphate fertilization were conducted during the 1999/00 and 2000/01 growing seasons. Inoculation significantly improved nodulation and dry matter production, particularly by locally isolated bradyrhizobia. Nitrogen fertilization improved dy matter production but depressed nodulation. Phosphate mitigated the depressive effect of nitrogen on nodulation, and further enhanced its stimulatory effect on dry matter production
