To study the effects of cultural practices, azolla and crop residue management on the yield of rice and soybean, and long term effects on the changing of soil fertility. The experiments were done for the period of 3 years in the rice soybean system with Korat soil series at Lampang Agricultural Research and Training Centre. The result showed that the different cultural practices did not affect the yield of rice and soybean. The utilization of azolla and crop residue management should increase the yield of rice only. Rice straw burning increase the pH of soil at the depth of 0-5 cm in the short time. The amount of organic matter and nitrogen of the soil 0-5 cm in no-tillage system were higher than the other cultural practices. No-tillage system with the utilization of azolla and adding the crop residues showed the highest increasing of organic matter after the period of 2 years management.
