Study of effect of isomalt in waffles in diabetic patients

The aim of study is to assess effect of isomalt on dlycemia and parameters of lipid metabolism. 60 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are included aged 40 to 60 years. Glycemia, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels are measured -preprandial and two hours after consumption of one waffle preparing with isomalt. Antidiabetic drugs are stopped in the day of examination. Glycemia increases with statistical significance. We also observed changes in HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides levels, but these changes did not reach statistical significance. In conclusion, isomalt can be used in preparing of waffles suitable for metabolic diseases as diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia, obesities.
