2006
Koechli, D.A. (Eidgenoessische Forschungsanstalt WSL, Birmensdorf (Switzerland))
In this paper, six different approaches to weight societal needs for forest products and services are presented: according to (1) basic human needs, (2) results of polls carried out, (3) the opinion of experts, (4) political processes, (5) the current land use, and (6) the economic value. The weighing was applied to a typical region of the Swiss plateau (region Greifensee east of Zurich) and could also be applied to other regions. Most weighting approaches show, that today, recreation and ecological aspects are most important for society in this region. Timber production is secondary.
