Hydrobiological investigations were carried out on the Gruza water reservoir during the period Octobar 1996 - September 1998. The fauna of zooplankton was studied within the framework of these investigations. In qualitative analysis of zooplankton, ninety-nine taxa were recorded in the Gruza water reservoir (Rhizopoda-6, Ciliata-9, Rotatoria-63, Cladocera-15, Copepoda-6). Rotatoria are dominant in the qualitative sense throughout the entire period, with 39.3-61.9% of the total number of taxa. It was found that the greatest diversity occurred during summer, the least during winter. The qualitative composition of zooplankton is represented by forms that also occur frequently in other water reservoirs of our country. In addition to occurring in water reservoirs, the majority of determined taxa are also common in natural waters of Serbia. Most of the taxa recorded in water reservoir Gruza are cosmopolitan organisms. Because artificial accumulations of water are young ecosystems that have existed for too short a time for aquatic organisms to become specialized, it is entirely normal that water reservoirs everywhere in the world are inhabited by common species.
