Microbiological characterization of soil under grass-legume mixtures fertilized with different mineral nitrogen rates with or without the use of lime is investigated. The data obtained show that the highest and lowest soil biogenity were recorded in the soil under the red clover + Italian rye grass and the yellow lotus and Italian rye grass mixtures, respectively. Lower nitrogen rates resulted in an increase of the number and activity of microorganisms whereas the rate of 100 kg/ha, caused a decrease of soil biogenity, excepting soil fungi. This particularly refers to the variants without the use of liming.
