Wheat is used in different ways: in human nutrition, as livestock feed, for industrial purposes and as seed. Of the total world wheat production, as much as 20-28% are used in the nutrition of different kinds and categories of domestic animals. Furthermore, due to its nutritive value and chemical composition wheat grain is very suitable for poultry nutrition. Triticale is a synthetic crop species developed by crossing wheat and rye at the end of the 19th century. Today, triticale as a crop species is considered to be potentially one of the most promissing and universal livestock feed sources. Triticale can be used in different ways: as grain, for pasture due to its excellent early vegetative vigour, as green fodder, for hay making, and the whole plant can be used for quality silage preparation.
