By improving rape quality, producing varieties low in glucosinolates, their detrimental effects would be eliminated. Chemical composition, macro and microelements and content of glucosinolates of some rape varieties of different provenances are presented in this paper. Results point to big differences between the varieties. Protein content ranged from 18.39% to 28.70% while the oil content ranged from 31.0% to 47.08%. Regarding the glucosinolates, in one of 107 analysed samples the tolerant limit was exceeded (38.18 micromol/g), while the interval of variation was 20.12-24.36 micromol/g in five samples. Lower values than 5 micromol/g were found in 42 samples and lower than 10 mmol/g in 23 samples. The content of glucosinolates ranged from 10 to 20 micromol/g in the rest of samples, which means considerable improvement of rape seed quality.
