The potentials of Gradac river [Serbia] as an ecotouristic challenge

The Gradac River with its gorge represents an important site of natural heritage of the Republic of Serbia, and is very respected among nature experts. Thanks to its specific hydrological and geomorphological characteristics, geographical position and ecological features, it is one of the eco-touristic destinations with greatest potential in Serbia. In this paper, the main focus of research is eco-touristic valorization of all physical-geographic and anthropo-geographic factors, relevant for eco-touristic development of the Gradac River. The Gradac Gorge is a significant eco-touristic attraction because of its very clean water, as well as numerous underground and surface forms of karst relief. Furthermore, it is a formally protected area, as a habitat of rare plants and animals. The famous monastery Celije is situated in the Gradac valley. Various kinds of eco-touristic facilities are available: eco-tracks, sport fishing, eco-households with preparation of healthy food. The Ecological Society Gradac takes care of thi snature reserve by many ecological actions and protection programs, in coordination with the Petnica Science Center. The Gradac Gorge is endangered by numerous obstructing factors, such as: the railway, loading of garbage, illegal constructions, local inertion, poor presentation, all of which are a threat to this eco-touristic resource in future.
