Situation and trends in rural areas in the Republic of Serbia are extemely unfavourable and anxious. Depopulation and rapid aging of rural inhabitants are more significant and represent special social problem. This means that natural and other resources are unused. In Serbia there are about million inhabitants who live in poverty. In the areas where some economic activities are present they give small results, low income, low production, low quality and incertail realization of products. This situation is very present in hilly-mountain areas. The purpose of this paper is to present possibilities and boundaries of rural development in municipalities of Zlatibor district (10 municipalities and 438 places) having in mind the need for rural development.
