Contribution to the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. [Master thesis]

In this work qualitative and quantitative GS-MS determination of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from US EPA list were optimized. The new data base PAHPLUS was created, as the result of the combination of commercial data base WILEY and experimental mass spectrums of PAHs. Chromatographic separation was optimized using the capillary column ULTRA1, and applied for the MS SCAN and SIM techniques, which were also optimised. LOD and LOQ were determined for the individual PAHs, as well as for the PAHs in mixtures. The developed method was applied for the qualitative and quantitative determination of PAHs in the 59 samples of the different types of soils, of the Province of Vojvodina (Serbia), collected during the period of 2003-2004. Total content of PAHs analysed in soil samples varied from 0.04 mg/kg to 1.35 mg/kg (samples collected during 2003), and from 0.43 mg/kg to 16.45 mg/kg (samples collected during 2004).
