The cave system Jezava - [a] new protected object in geological heritage of Serbia

The general results of the new speleological, biospeleological and paleontological research of the cave system Jezava are presented in this paper. The results show that this cave system is a significant and valuable subterranean form of a fluvio-karst relief with diverse cavernicolous arthropod fauna and fossil fauna from Pleistocene and Holocene. A study on protection of this subterranean relief form is being realised according to its determined values. With this proposition, the Jezava cave system is put under protection regime for the first time, representing a newly protected object within the geological heritage of Serbia.
