The UV resistance of Bacillus polymyxa HSK-B-20120 and B. circulans HSK-B-20121 spores was studied. There was not a significant decrease in spore counts of B. polymyxa HSK-B-20120 and B. circulans HSK-B-20121 with exposure up to the UV dosage of 40 and 21mW /sec/square m, respectively. D values were calculated using the declining- linear portions of the surviving spore curves for B. polymyxa HSK-B-20120 and B. circulans HSK-B-20121, and those were 35.7 and 25.0mW/sec/square m. respectively. The resistance of both spores to UV irradiation was the strongest when compared to that shown by ones that have been reported before. In the case of setting both strain spores as target microorganisms of UV irradiation treatment during food production processes, it was considered that the combination of UV irradiation and some other germicidal methods could be more effective.
