Fish fauna were studied in the Daikon river system, Koga city, Fukuoka prefecture, from 2002 to 2004. Fifty two species were confirmed including Lutjanus russellii (Kurohoshifuedai, Lutjanidae) and Oligolepis acutipennis (Noborihaze, Gobiidae) which were the first records from Fukuoka prefecture. Freshwater fish recorded were 19 species, of which 16 species were considered native to the river system, indicating that the Daikon river system has a relatively rich fish fauna in the medium class rivers of Fukuoka prefecture. Comparison of freshwater fish faunas among the main stream (Daikon river) and the tributaries (Taniyama, Netabi, and Aoyagi rivers) revealed that both the species number and the diversity were positively correlated to the river length.
