1. The root mass of a planted 'Keio-zakura' for two years was distributed in shallow soil layer. After the root pruning with rotary tillage, the tree height and width became smaller. 2. The root pruning is effective to control the extension of a current shoot and to increase the number of floral buds from late April to middle May, which the current shoot length is less than 5 cm. 3. Both operation of girdling and root pruning is more effective than that only operation of girdling to control the extension of a current shoot and to increase the number of floral buds. 4. It is possible to harvest the whole branches at once for 3 years using both operation of girdling and root pruning by trencher, in the case that a current shoots of two years old branches has gotten more than one meter two years after the whole branch harvested.
