Environmental noise surveying and analysis was performed in middle east of Kochi Prefecture. Extensive field measurements related to three main noise sources of the region were conducted: road traffic noise in Noichi town, railway traffic noise along Gomen-Nahari line in Nankoku city, and aircraft noise surrounding Kochi airport. The results indicated that road noise levels are lower than the limit value, but in some areas, rail and air traffic noise levels were higher than relevant environmental standards. In addition, the relationship between Laeq of road traffic and traffic volume, effect of the sound barrier, and the elevated railway noise attenuating with distance were studied. Some useful information for future regional planning was obtained.
