In this experiment, improvement of a plug seedling nursery using the full-automatic welsh onion transplanter (two section type) were carried out to establish the year-round system and to evaluate cost performance. 1. Root bowls became difficult to collapse by mixing media for welsh onion and vegetable potting media in the ration of two to three (V/V). Increased root amounts and high transplantation efficiency were obtained at the water content of 35.8-30.9 % in the root bowl and by an addition of slow releasing fertilizer for nursing seedling. An addition of a coagulating agent improved the root bowl strength and higher transplantation efficiency at the water content of 14. 9-34.9 % in the root bowl. This nursery method for plug seedling showed high transplantation efficiency and was easier than a conventional one. Furthermore, this method was effective for the healthy growth, survival and early growth of plug seedlings. 2. A year-round utilization system of the full-automatic welsh onion transplanter (two section type) was established. This transplanter took advantage of cost performance with more than 1ha scale of cultivation in a year.
