Effect of plant growth retardant (daminozide wettable powder) to control elongation of seedlings of Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obutusa
2006
Yamamoto, S.(Shizuoka-ken. Forestry and Forest Products Research Inst., Hamakita (Japan))
To prevent the production of nonstandard seedlings by useless unproductive growth, the effects of spraying treatments were investigated with daminozide wettable powder which was one of the plant growth retardants for elongation control on 2-year- old seedlings of Cryptomeria japonica and 3-year-old seedlings of Chamaecyparis obutusa. And rooting conditions of seedlings on each treatment were observed. As a result of this investigation, effect of this growth retardant was recognized to control elongation of seedlings of Cryptomeria japonica and same tendency was also recognized for Chamaecyparis obutusa seedlings. In this study, on both species, to increase the production rate of superior standard seedlings escaped from useless unproductive growth and maintain good rooting conditions, it was considered that the most effective treatment was to spray 2,000ppm concentration of daminozide along with root cutting. However, restrain of rooting was recognized for Chamaecyparis obutusa seedlings by treatment with this plant growth retardant. From the result of investigation 1 year after treatment, it is expected that both species grow normally afterward.
