In North-West Research Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Electrification, St-Petersburg, Russia, a technique and equipment have been designed to prepare solutions of mineral fertilizers on the basis of activated water for additional fertilizing of plants in hothouses. The principle of this technique is that prior to application the drinking water is decomposed into two parts - anode-based water-anolyte-(acidic) with ph=3-3,5, and cathode-based water-catholyte-(alkaline) with pH=9.5-10.5. The mix of these parts is used to prepare solutions of mineral fertilizers with improved biological properties, which differ from those of the nutrient solution based on common drinking water. This method makes it possible to reduce mineral fertilizers consumption by 25% owing to the better uptake of mineral nutrients by the plants, to lower the leaching of fertilizers to underground waters, and to increase the yields of vegetables by 14-16%.
