An experiment was conducted at Karakuram Agricultural ResearchStation, Astore, during 2000-01, to evaluate the growth and yieldresponse of wheat to ten different planting patterns. Randomizedcomplete block design with three replications was used. The wheatcultivar Chakwal 97 was used. Morphological parameters like plantheight, 1000-grain weight, straw yield and harvest index were notinfluenced by the planting patterns studied. However, planting patternssignificantly affected the number of tillers per unit area. Moreover, grain and straw yield decreased with an increase in distance betweenstrips and number of rows within strip. The highest grain yield (45.22kg 100 m- 2) was obtained from planting pattern 30 cm apart singlerow. Thus 30 cm apart single row patterns may easily be adopted inview of the production situation.
