2004
Kozik, E.U. (Instytut Warzywnictwa, Skierniewice (Poland))
The objective of these studies was elaborate procedures for breeding tomatoes for resistance to bacterial speck useful for seed companies and plant breeding institutes. In this kind of breeding, traditional methods based on crossing of properly matched parental genotypes can be used. For the evaluation of disease suceptibility, it is essential to have a reliable and simple method of testing including artificial inoculation with the casual agent. Among four methods of inocualtion evaluated, the best involved spraying plants at the 4 to 5 true leaf stage with a water suspension of bacteria at 10*8 jtk*ml**(1). This method provided a uniform distribution of necrotic spots and made it easy to distinguish and resistant idividuals
