Crop quality of pasture mixtures with different percentage of white clover on leys under alternate grazing/hay management
2004
Harasim, J. (Instytut Uprawy Nawozenia i Gleboznawstwa, Pulawy (Poland). Zaklad Uprawy Roslin Pastewnych)
The aim of the study was to investigate the chemical composition and the feeding value of the mixtures under the two leys management methods. The clover grass mixtures, especially those with the increased percentage of white clover, were richer in nutrients, had higher digestibility and higher energetic value than the grass mixture. All mixtures had an excess of potassium and phosphorus, though. Alternate management of the ley caused the fiber content of plants to increase due to delayed harvest under hay management. Total protein yield was not affected by ley management since the reduced protein content of mixtures under alternate management was compensated by higher dry matter yield
