Water retention in haplic Luvisols profiles of South-East Poland formed from sandy silt and silt

This study was aimed to determine water retention curve of Luvisols derived from sandy silt and silty loam (loess) formations under forest and cultivated field in South-East Poland. The measurements of water content were made for pF values: 0, 1, 1.5, 2.2, 3.0, 3.7 and 4.2 at depths corresponding in main horizons. The results indicated that water retention at comparable pF values and horizons was greater in soil derived from silty loam than sandy silt. In most horizons storage capacity of gravitationas water (pF 0-2.2) and plant unavailable water (pF 4.2) were greater under forest than cultivated field
