The studies on colour visibility included 11 purebred Arabian mares in Bialka Stud. The test for the following colours: red, blue, green, yellow and all possible pairs according to the authors' own method was conducted. Pulse rate in all mares was measured telemetrically at every stage of the test. Results of the study were statistically analysed. The best perceived colour by the mares was the blue-yellow pair. It seemed that it was the most contrasting colour for the horses - different from each other. The most number of mistakes made by the mares was for the pair green-yellow. There was no significant influence of the change in light conditions on the quality of the colour perceived by the studied horses
