A procedure For Multiple shoot Formation From cotyledonary nodes and stem segment explants of Vicia johannis, cultured on MS medium containing thidiazuron (TDZ)and benzyladenine (BA), was developed. Both cotyledonary node and stem segment explants, cultured on MS medium containing TDZ in combination with BA, produced higher number of shoots than with either TDZ or BA alone. The highest number of shoots regenerated on cotyleddonary node (9.72) and stem segment explants (5.33) were obtained on MS medium supplemented with TDZ and BA at concentrations of 0.5 and 2.0 mg1E-1, respectively, for 31 days. shoots produced in vitro were rooted on half strength MS agar solidified medium without growth, regulator or with 0.5 mg1E-1 indole acetic acid (IAA) or 0.5 mg1E-1 IAA in combination with 5.0 mg1E-1 acetyl salicylic acid. This procedure was rapid, reliable and with high-frequency. Thus, it can be advantageously used in the application of modern gene tr ansfer techniques for the improvement of Vicia johannis
