Purpose of this research is to find the effect of chemical modification of the biopolymers, corn and tapioca starch, on biodegradability of plastics. To have well mixing and rapid biodegradation, corn and tapioca starch were hydrolyzed by hydrochloric acid 37 percent (w/v) and crosslinked by phosphorousoxy chloride (0.014 M) before mixing with LDPE JJ4324. By studying the mechanical and degradibility properties. Results revealed that the viscosity of the modified starch are reduced as well as the difference of size and shape with rough surface of the modified granule starch are shown by the scanning electron micrograph. Furthermore study from IR-spectra, the principal functional groups of the modified starch are not changed.
