Effect of microorganism in silkworm litter on collar rot disease development of roselle

Microorganisms, the one of bioagents, are alternatively used to plant disease control for safety on human, animals, food and environment. These bioagents can collect and select from several natural sources. Silkworm litter was the interested natural source for the studies. Isolation and selection of antagonistic microorganisms in order to decrease collar rot disease development in roselle plants and affected to the number of survival Phytophthora propagules in soil were proceeded in this study. Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted in Bangkok and field experiments in Udonthani. The result showed that Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus II, Actinomycetes I and mixed microorganisms (Pseudomonas fluorescens+Bacillus I+Bacillus II+Actinomycetes I) could inhibit the growth of Phytophthora nicotianae var. parasitica on PDA medium and in soil. In greenhouse, collar rot disease development in roselle plants decreased when inoculated with infested soil (sporangia and chlamydospores) into the amended soil with 3 percent silkworm litter and decreasing in disease development was observed more on the roselle plants grown in the amended soil corporated with antagonistic microorganisms, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus II, and Actinomycetes I. However, the number of survival of Phytophthora propagules were not less than in the infested soil treatment. In field trail, disease development in roselle plants decreased when inoculated with infested soil into amended soil with 3 percent silkworm litter and into corporated soil with antagonistic microorganisms Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacillus I, Bacillus II, Actinomycetes I and mixed microorganisms (Pseudomonas fluorescens+Bacillus I+Bacillus II+Actinomycetes I). There was no difference in number of survival of Phytophthora propagules among infested soil treatments.
