[Reproduction of the Ratite: Nedification. Oviposition.Incubation]

A unique long-tem experiment of egg incubation and getting off offspring of three species of Ratitae birds (the African ostrich, emu and nandu) by the natural nesting has been carried out at the Biosphere Reserve "Askania-Nova". For the first time it allowed to study in details and also to describe nesting of these birds, their egg laying, hatching in captivity. The present work deals with the morphometric egg characteristics and their chemical composition. A method of stimulating the breeding process and hatching of eggs by males grown under the condition of domestification are described. The males are found to lose some behaviour reactions and insticts. Original ways of egg incubation and methods of increase in breeding success in captivity are developed and approved. The Askania-Nova Zoo demonstrates the way one can reach the regular breeding of the birds during a long time at a small poultry farm of about 100 birds of the three species

В заповеднике "Аскания-Нова" проведен уникальный многолетний эксперимент по инкубации яиц и получению приплода трех видов бескилевых птиц (африканского страуса, эму, нанду) путем естественного насиживания. Это позволило впервые детально изучить и описать гнездование этих птиц, их яйцекладку, насиживание и вылупление птенцов в условиях неволи. В работе даны морфометрическая характеристика яиц этих видов и их химический состав. Описаны способы стимуляции процесса размножения и насиживания яиц самцами, выращенными в условиях одомашнивая и утратившими некоторые поведенческие реакции и инстинкты. Разработаны и апробированы оригинальные способы инкубации яиц и метогды повышения успешности размножения в условиях неволи. На примере зоопарка показано, как в хозяйстве с небольшим поголовьем (немного более 100 особей трех видов этих птиц) можно добиться регулярного их размножения и поддерживать его в течение длительного времени
