Genetic diversity in germplasm with respect to soil and water conservation and yield of essential oil in vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides)

Genetic divergence among 45 collections of vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) assembled from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi (north India), Travencore, Odikali (South India) and Indonesia and Reunion (exotic) was quantified using D sup(2) statistics based on eight metric traits (tillers/plant, leaves width, root depth, root width, fresh root yield, dry root yield, oil content in root and oil yield). The possible factors responsible for evaluation of morphometric traits/genotypes suitable for soil and water conservation, yield of essential oil and creation of diversity have been discussed. exploitation of promising clones showing divergence and selection criteria on the basis of traits in genotypes/clones for soil and water conservation have also been suggested.
