Two experiments, one on optimum spacing and effective method of raising vetiver slips for the production of maximum number of tillers/clump in the nursery and another on the optimum dose fertilizer and optimum period for retaining the clump in the nursery for effective number of tillers, were studied. The results revealed that vetiver clumps planted in ridges and furrows method with a spacing of 50 cm*50 cm produced maximum number of tillers/clump irrespective of lifting time. Application of fertilizers in the combination of Farm yard manure+Diammonium phosphate+Zinc and Boron was found to be optimum for higher production of tillers. Retaining the clumps up to 8th month after planting produced more robust and a higher number of tillers, though the rate of production of tillers decreased after the 7th month.
