Contemporary state of the tick-borne transmissive infections in domestic animals in Bulgaria

A retrospective analysis for the state of the agricultural foci of Q fever during the period of 1950-2002 was carried out. In 2002-2004 the average seropositive rate for C. burnetii among cattle, sheep and goats was 9,88% and many foci of the infection were registreted. For first time Q fever was established in strait dogs and cats cought in Sofia. The examination of 923 ixodic ticks revealed 163 (17,65%) C. burnetii infected. Nine Coxiella strains were isolated from ticks. Significant seropositive rate for R. conorii (20,42%) was established in sheep, goats and cattle from Mediterranean spotted fever endemic and non-endemic regions. The immunofluorescent examination of 865 ticks revealed 19,76% R. conorii positive. From ticks were isolated 3 strains of R. conorii and 2 of R. sibirica. The seropositive for Lime disease dogs tested by immunofluorescence were 6,7% on average and 6,2% by ELISA.
