Comparative investigation of the fattening abilities and the level of direct heterosis effect in pigs from the breeds Danube White, Landrace and their crosses
2006
Apostolov, A. | Slanev, S. | Nedeva, R.
The experiment comprised four groups of 15 pigs and started at 30 kg live weight and finished at 100 kg. The pigs from the separate genotypes were equalized by number, live weight and sex. The animals were raised individually and fed compound feeds according to the norms for the relevant category. It was established that the animals from the hybrid combination DWxL and LxDW exceeded the pure-bred pigs from the breeds DW and Landrace-synthetic line(L) in relation to average daily gain and feed conversion per 1 kg gain. During the second sub-period, the pigs from both combinations DWxL and LxDW showed higher direct heterosis effect 7.35 - 9.1% for average daily gain and 6-6.8% for feed conversion. The heterosis effect of both traits subject of the investigation was in the range 2.5-3.2%, for the whole experimental period.
