This study provides information about (a) concentration of calcium in the soil, (b) the changes of calcium in apple leaves and fruits, (c) presence of gene encoding proteins involved in Ca2+ transport through cellular membrane. Leaves and fruits collected from bearing one-year-old spurs of Shampion (known for its low Ca content in fruits) and Gala (high Ca content) were sampled twice: at walnut stage of fruit development and when fruits were fully mature. Analysis of Ca content in plant material revealed differences due to the sampling date, cultivar and plant organ. It suggests that genes of Ca2+ - transporters and their expression are essential for high level of Ca accumulation in fruits, rather than its content in the soil
