Review of application of Veratrum Lobelianum as the emetic, irritating, antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory preparation in the veterinary medicine was presented. Veratrum Lobelianum pulvis after infliction to skin and mucous tunic caused the irritating effect which was followed by the anaesthetic one. Research results of the irritating properties of three dosage forms of Veratrum Lobelianum (Veratrum Lobelianum decoction, Veratrum Lobelianum tincture and Veratrum water) were presented. Single application of Veratrum Lobelianum decoction (in the ratio 1:10) to skin of mice and rabbits (50 ml/kg of live weight) did not cause any visible reaction. Irritating effect of Veratrum Lobelianum tincture on mucous tunic of eyes of mice and rabbits was low and brief (disappeared in 3-4 days). In 10 days after application of Veratrum Lobelianum decoction and Veratrum Lobelianum tincture the skin of the studied animals was covered with even wool. Results of studies of the local action of Veratrum water and Veratrum Lobelianum tincture on skin of mice and rabbits showed that single application Veratrum Lobelianum to skin (50 ml/kg of live weight) caused the short term reddening which disappeared in 24 hours. There was noticed no inflammation or irritation signs. In the first hours of Veratrum water application on the conjunctival sac there was noticed the weak hyperemia of conjunctiva and epiphora which disappeared in 1-2 days
