Some parameters of strawberry plants leading to high yield were investigated. The number of branch crowns of 2.0 per plant by the beginning of first fruiting year was the minimum that could ensure high cumulative yield over two main seasons. Varieties with 2.0 to 3.0 branch crowns by first fruiting season could exhibit outstanding yield in second year, those having from 3.0 to 5.0 ones had maximum cumulative yields over two years, and genotypes with 5.0 to 6.0 branch crowns outproduced all others in first year. Further branch crown number increasing led to falling of total yield, although such genotypes might have high productivity in one of the two first seasons. Some divergence between the data obtained in the two experiments was associated with differing environmental conditions in the years of the studies. Severe late spring frosts injured flowers of sensitive genotypes caused some yield losses in both of years during the first trial, while cooler summer during the first fruiting season in the second experiment delayed plant development of mid-late and late-season genotypes and sums of the four components in them were somewhat lower compared with the experiment. Nevertheless, weather conditions during the study 2 were on the whole more favourable. In general, the range of 2.5 to 5.5 was the optimum to ensure the highest cumulative marketable yields. The most (profitable) sum values of four main yield components (branch crown number and inflorescence number per plant, number of flowers per inflorescence, and mean berry weight) in the first year lay within the range of 24.0 to 30.5. Dukat, Elsanta, Senga Tigaiga, Zolushka Kubani, Or 965-7-1, Or 975-12-72, Or 1198-11-29, and Or 1198-11-310 were found most promising for Central Russia
