In order to evaluation and determination of on farm water application efficiency (Ea) in the traditional surface irrigation systems, this project was conducted in some parts of West Azarbaijan, Kerman and Khoozestan provinces which cultivated with wheat, sugarbeet, corn, tomato, alfalfa, bean and lettuce. Farms were selected based on various management, irrigation methods and kind of crop. The Results showed that the average of Ea in almost all of farms was more than 37%, which has been reported as average for country. Among 21 farm, the minimum of Ea (18%), was belong to the lettuce farm in Dez irrigation network, and the maximum of Ea (95%), was belong to the wheat farm irrigated by river water in Urmia region. The minimum and maximum of Ea in the farms of West Azarbaijan were 36% and 95% respectively, while this value were 31% and 78% in Kerman and were 18% and 56% in Khoozestan. Also the results showed that the management and irrigation method, length of furrow and borber, the slope of land and the texture of soil affects the amount of Ea. Therefore, in arid and semiarid area, the length of irrigation borders and furrows should be short and the end runoff must be decreased or eliminated. Key words: Water application efficiency, Water use efficiency, Evaluation, Surface irrigation method.
