This study was conducted from 1997 to 1999 to evaluate resistance of sugar beet lines against sugar beet tomor disease for finding suitable genotypes for plant breeding programs. 64 breeding materials and domestic and introduced cultivars were tested using a lattice design with two replications, and also 20 lines and selected cultivars were tested in 1999 and 2000 at BC. camp of Shahid Beheshti Agro Industry Company. Results indicated that gall weight and gall / root ratio were more precise than percent of the disease incidence , and from this point of view, there was significant difference among genotypes. In 1997 -98 cultivars 261,428,461,7092,19669,lit13,21588 and 21589 were resistant to the gall disease. Whereas cultivar 231 with 10% infection was the most sensitive cultivar. In 1998-99 the level of infection was higher and cultivars 461-77 with 4.61% disease incidence and22694-74 with 49.12%disease incidence were the most resistant and susceptible cultivars respectively. In the same year cultivar 7173-77 with the gall weight of 30 gm and gall / root ratio of 0.001 and cultivar24.362 with the gall weight of 2345.3 gm and gall / root ratio of 0.11 were the most resistant and suseeptible cultivars , respectively. In 1999-2000 cultivar biston-4n with the gall weight of 49.98 gm and gall / root ratio of 0.003 was the most resistant and cultivars 452-77 with the gall weight of 523.8 gm , 191-78 and 452-77 with ratio of 0.035 and 0.31 were the mostsusceptible cultivars. In this year, cultivars231-77 with 33.32% hncidence and biston-4n with 9.25% incidence were the most susceptible and resistant cultivars. The level of infection in the second year ( 21.8 %) was higher than the first year (23.3%) of the experiment. Effect of year and genotypes were significant fore the evaluated indices. Results of the experiment showed that cultivars 461 and otype 113 with 2.3 and 21.28 % infection were the most resistant and susceptible cultivars and in addition to genetic factors the disease is also influenced by environmental factors and genetic factors are more influential.
