Biotic and abiotic stresses are effective on process of agricultural production , and water stress has special importance in drought conditions .This research was carried out to study the effect of water stress (with omission of irrigation times in the various stages of growth) on grain yield, yield components, water use efficiency (WUE) and some growth characteristics of two grain corn hybrids, KSC 704 and Karaj 700 . The specific objectives were to study whether the rate of water consumption can be decreased by applying water stress with keeping yield in desirable levels. The experiments were conducted in Torogh agricultural research station (in Khorasan province) during 2002-2003. The experimental design was split plot arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. Results showed that water stress had significant effects on grain yield, yield components, WUE and some evaluated characteristics, but hybrids had not significant effects on grain yield and some yield components. Finally, it was recognized that water stress applying in suitable times is a useful and advisable method for water saving. Besides, with reduction in used water in two stress treatment levels, WUE was increased. Grain yield reduction was due to decreasing the number of seed per ear.
