Coir dust (coir) is considered as an alternative to peat, rockwool, and other materials for various transplant productions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of coir-based container media, coir alone, and mixture of coir and perlite at 3:1, 2:1, and 1:1 ratios, for gerbera growth with emphasis placed on the water holding characteristics of the media. Physical properties and water holding characteristics of the media were measured, and effect of irrigation intervals on the growth of gerbera in the media was investigated.
