The aim of this investigation was to study the proliferative potential of Cucurbita moschata explants for carotenoid production, and the morphological peculiarities of callus tissue derived from the pericarp. Obtained callus was nonmorphogenous, and plant cells cultured in vitro contained chloroplasts and carotenoidplasts at the same time. The ability of coloring (in yellow and red) in callus cultures obtaining from colorless explants was also observed.
