[Changes of the content of main chemical components in carrots during storage]

The evolution of the content of chemical components in carrots at long storage has been analysed. A total of 50 carrot varieties of different geographical origin were studied. It was found that carrotene content increased in all varieties in autumn-winter period (in the majority of them the increase was rather significant)and decrease in winter-spring period, but even after the decrease this indicator was higher than its initial values. A number of varieties were selected as initial material for breeding for high carotene content.
