The study was carried out to develop an economical and environmentally sound management strategy against the eggplant leafhopper, Amrasca biguttula Ishida, on eggplant. The study involved the use of Metrhizium anisopliae, rice straw mulch, plastic mulch, and insecticide and evaluation of their effects on population dendity of eggplant leafhopper. No M. anisopliae was isolated from the collected insects. Alternatively, three isolates of M. anisopliae were evaluated against the eggplant leafhopper. Results revealed a very low percentage (10%) mortality indicating that M. anisopliae was ineffective against the eggplant leafhopper, and therefore was not evaluated anymore in the field. Tipronil gave the highest mean reduction in eggplant leafhopper population and highest yield over the other treatment but the diiference among the treatment means were not significant. Moreocer, the highest return on investment was obtained from fipronil (44.41%), foll owed by plastic mulch (38.87%), biological control treatment (22.4%) and rice straw mulch (15.36%). Results indicated that it would be advisable for a farmer with enough capital to use fipronil and plasic mulch.
