Promentilla, R.P.
A treatability study using solidification/stabilization technology was performed on a lead (Pb) containing inorganic sludge using a ternary blend cement consisting of ordinary portland cement (OPC), rice hull/husk ash (RHA), and pulverized fly ash (PFA). The sludge that was treated is brownish, soil-like, and lumpy was found to have a mean bulk density of 1.38 g/ml, a pH of 4.21, and moisture content of 28.29%. The extreme vertices mixture design was used to determine the effect of 12 different formulations on compressive strength and leachability for sludge to binder ratios of 0.5, 1 and 2. The Universal Testing Machine (UTM) was used to measure compressive strength while Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrophotometer (ICP) was used to determine the Pb concentrations in the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) extracts. The results were presented as ternary diagrams in the form of contour and surface plots and regions of high percen tage immobilization or low leachability and high compressive strengths were identified.
