Mojica, F. DL.
This study generally aimed to examine the level of interorganizational communication (LIC), extent of interorganizational coordination (EIC), and degree of interorganizational participation (DIP) of environmental workers involved in the promotion solid waste management (SWM) in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. This study surveyed 47 environment workers from 18 member-agencies of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) and 50 residents of five LBSCFI-adopted barangays [villages] in Los Baños. Descriptive statistics was used in the data analysis. Cramer's V, a chi-square based measure of association, was used in the analysis and interpretation of relationships/associations among selected variables. The study revealed a 'high' level of interorganizational communication, 'moderately great' extent of interorganizational coordination, and a 'high' degree of interorganizational participation among LBSCFI environment workers. Results also showed a 'strong' association between LIC and EIC, and between LIC and DIP, and a 'moderately strong' association between EIC and DIP. Findings further revealed that, on the average, the LBSCFI environment workers and the residence of the five LBSCFI-adopted barangays perceived the outcome of the promotion of solid waste management in Los Baños to be 'successful'. This study reconfirmed the findings of previous studies that communication is an essential component of any collaborative undertaking requiring interorganizational relationships. This, therefore, implies that the high level of interorganizational communication can lead to high degree of interorganizational participation and, consequently, to a successful promotion of a well-coordinated solid waste management program in a particular community.
