The influence of farmyard manure (30 t/ha) + NPK, winter wheat straw (6 t/ha + 40 kg N/ha) + NPK and compost (10 t/ha) + NPK on quality of sugar beet roots were tested as compared to mineral fertilization (120.0, 39.3 and 166.0 kg/ha NPK). The fertilization schemes had no significant influence on sugar content in roots. The fertilization schemes, study years and interaction of these factors had a significant influence on N-alpha-NH2, and Na ions content in roots. The straw + NPK fertilization decreased N-alpha-NH2 and increased K ions content in the roots
