The paper examines some parameters of hulls obtained from four buckwheat cultivars: Emka, Panda, Kora and Luba, as well as commercial hulls, also very important in the context of energy generation. Buckwheat hulls, a by-product, could be used in groats mills as a fuel, for example in drying rooms, to produce technological stem, to heat the mill's buildings or to heat water. In all the variants of the experiments moisture content in hulls was estimated, as well as the ash content and heat of combustion. The energy value of hulls was calculated. Assuming that a model groats mill produces around 40 Mg of hulls monthly, it is for energy generation equals 777.5 GJ of energy. An equivalent calculated in fuel oil in one month is equal to 21597.2 liters
