The effects of soil polluted with coal ash on the number and enzymatic activity of soil microorganisms and on the plant yield were investigated. Soil samples were treated with three different doses of ash, vaccine Azotobakteryna and with mineral fertilization. Coal ash pollution resulted in stimulation of growth of soil fungi and cellulolytic microorganisms and in simultaneous decrease of numbers of bacteria, actinomycetes and Azotobacter spp. Ash decreased activity of dehydrogenases, enhanced the urease in the soil whereas phosphatases activity remained unaffected
