Developments in aquaculture impose new goals for fish nutritionists to improve fish welfare and health or to fulfil the consumer's expectations for fillet quality and human nutrition. The Mediterranean Network on Aquaculture Nutrition, during the 10th International Symposium on Nutrition and Feeding in Fish organized a 2-day Workshop (Rhodes, Greece 1-2 June 2002). The objectives were: to review the state of knowledge on nutritional requirements of Mediterranean species, to review and discuss about aquafeed manufacturing and to provide a discussion forum for people involved in production and scientists. The workshop included four sessions about energy-protein requirements and feeding, amino acid requirements, fatty acid requirements, aquafeed ingredients and production, and a final session of open discussion with producers about aquafeeds and feeding. Each session started with a keynote lecture followed by the oral presentations and an open discussion. These proceedings compile 16 manuscripts based on the review and technical papers presented .
