Ash, crude protein (CP), neutral (NDF) and acid (ADF) detergent fibre, acid detergent lignin (ADL), nitrogen linked to fibre fractions and betaine were measured in 45 Atriplex halimus (ssp. halimus and schweinfurthii) Mediterranean accessions. Leaves and young stems were sampled in June and November 2000. 67 per cent of ssp. halimus edible biomass was leaves, whereas 50 per cent in schweinfurthii.
