The aim of our study was to estimate the lead cumulation in herbs on two habitats and to show the effect of that metal on the content of selected macro- and microelements. The experiments were carried out in 1998-2000 on two grasslands having different pollution degree of anthropological origine. The following species were analysed: Plantago maior, Achillea millefolium, Taraxacum officinale, Urtica dioica and Rumex acetosa. The content of N, P, Pb, Na, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, Mg, Ca and Na was assessed. The obtained results showed the essential differences in the cumulation of lead. It was also shown that lead had a modifying effect on the content of selected macro- and microelements, what depended on the level of Pb concentration and on the type of species. In the majority of species, the growth of Pb concentration resulted in the increase of nitrogen content and the decrease of magnesium, iron and manganese
